Alcoholism
Alcoholism is the physical or emotional dependenceIt comes in different forms: A person suffering from alcoholism might get drunk every day, or wait for the weekend to binge. Irrespective of the drinking pattern, long-term heavy alcohol consumption affects the liver, heart, & brain, & it can be difficult to overcome without help.
The Term Alcoholism refers to an illness known as alcohol dependence syndrome, the most extreme stage of a group of drinking issues which begins with binge drinking and alcohol abuse.
Symptoms of Alcoholism
Those who use alcohol may begin to show early signs of a problem, then progress to showing symptoms of alcohol abuse; if drinking continues, they may later have symptoms of alcoholism or alcohol dependence.
Alcohol Abuse
Binge drinking turns into alcohol abuse when someone's drinking begins to cause problems and the drinking continues anyway. alcohol abuse is when someone continues to drink in spite of continued social, interpersonal or legal difficulties. Alcohol abuse can result in missing time at school or work. neglecting child or household.
Treatment of Alcoholism
Irrespective of how somebody is diagnosed as alcohol dependent or how they came to recognize they have a serious drinking issue, the first step to treatment is a honest desire to get help. Alcoholics who are pressured in to treatment by social pressure or forced to quit by circumstances seldom succeed in the long run.
Even most alcoholics who seek help on their own volition have at least one relapse before they get long-term sobriety.
